This Fine Silver Proof 10 Cent NCLT Coin was issued by the RAM as part of a six coin set to commemorate the Change of Monarch. The set contains six coins, five of them (5c, 10c, 20c, 50c & $1)with different effigies of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The $2 coin in the set has the first effigy of King Charles III on its obverse.
This 10 cent coin displays the 2nd effigy by Arnold Machin used on Australian coins from 1966 to 1984.
According to centuries-old tradition, Australia's coins bear an effigy of the reigning monarch on their obverse. Queen Elizabeth II was Australia's longest-serving monarch. Although new effigies are introduced rarely, there have been six effigies of the Queen on Australia's coins prior to her death.
Mary Gillick (1953-1964), Arnold Machin (1966-1984), Raphael Makleouf (1985-1998), Vladimir Gottwald (2000, 1 coin only), Ian Rank-Broadly (1998-2019) and Jody Clark (2019-2024).
