The exhibition "Coins and Devotion" opened on Nov. 9 and will end on Jan. 13, 2014 at the "Spazio Mostre Valentini" in Via Ricasoli 6 (at Palazzo Pretorio). The exhibition was curated by Francesco Bernocchi, Angelo Petrai and Alessio Montagano in collaboration with the Cultural Department of the City of Prato.

This exhibition aims to tell the story of devotion in the period between Middle Ages and Renaissance with special focus on Prato, represented by a range of beautiful objects. One can admire a beautiful painting with a gold background; a metal coin urn embellished with gold friezes of Bohemian manufacture. Here it is also possible to observe ancient coins produced in Tuscan workshops, such as the very rare Gold flower of Pisa or the Giulio of Montalcino.

Here there are also numerous coins offered by devotees to the Madonna of the Sacred Girdle on pilgrimages to the Duomo, which were used in order to obtain graces. It is also possible to admire the Jerusalem Florin, which was most likely brought with the "Girdle." In addition, it is possible to observe the board depicting one of the very rare Florins of Prato, complete with explanation, made around 1350 by the City Mint.
