The Corpus Nummorum Italicorum (CNI) was compiled by Victor Emmanuel III of Savoy, assisted by the most expert numismatists of the time. It was the first attempt at a general catalog of medieval and modern coins minted in Italy or by Italians in other countries. It remains fundamental today for the study and classification of issues from the various Italian mints since the Middle Ages. The work, originally planned for 10-12 volumes, and remained unfinished due to the outbreak of World War II. In total, 20 volumes were published from 1910 to 1943.
