Comments

House of Windsor (1917 to date), Elizabeth II (1952-2022), Pre-decimal issues (1953-70).

The original weight of these coins was 2/11 troy ounce (87.3 grains). Under the Coinage Act of 1946, the composition changed from .500 silver to .750 copper/.250 nickel but the weight remained at 87.3 grains.

1955 reverse die varieties:
Rev C D of DEF at a bead, F of DEF between beads, both quatrefoils between beads, 2nd I in SHILLING at a bead;
Rev D D of DEF between beads, F of DEF to left of bead, left quatrefoil at a bead, right quatrefoil to left of bead, 2nd I in SHILLING between beads;

1959 reverse die varieties:
Type 1 All 3 ornaments touch the baseline;
Type 2 Ornaments 1 & 3 away from baseline;
