Arabic text in three rows in the center. First row "لا اله الا".
This text is surrounded by one row of Arabic text. Starting with "بسم الله" at 1 o'clock reading from right to left.
Two rings surrounding all the text and in the outer margin annulets are evenly distributed along with another Arabic text in between the annulets. The Arabic text starts with طاهر at 12 o'clock, reading from right to left (counterclockwise).

بسم الله ضرب هذا الدرهم بالمحمدىه سنه و خمس و تسعىن و مئة
طاهر بن الحسىن مولى المامون
Translation:
There is no god but God alone, with no partner.
In the name of God, this dirham was minted in Muhammadiyah in the year five and ninety and one hundred (195 AH).
Tahir ibn al-Husayn the servant of al-Ma'mun.

There is a variant of this type from AH195 where the name Tahir is on the reverse, without the patronymic (bin al-Husayn).
The last row of the obverse cites the name of a local official, الفضل (Al-Fadl).
