Comments

This NCLT Aluminium-bronze $1 coloured coin was released in a coincard by the RAM in 2015 as part of a six coin series of ANZAC themed Animals at War coins.

It was also issued in a PNC by Australia Post, Issue 19 of 2015 (10,500 copies)

It was also in individually numbered PNC packaging at the two fairs mentioned in the Mintage box.

Murphy the Donkey is famous for his work with Private John Simpson Kirkpatrick, a stretcher-bearer with the 3rd Australian Field Ambulance. He put Murphy to use on the Anzac positions on Gallipoli. Together they brought wounded soldiers down rough tracks under enemy fire to receive treatment.
