Comments

A series of souvenir coin-shaped medals was issued for the 8th season of the Kontinental Hockey League, which ran from August 24, 2015, to February 18, 2016. Twenty-eight clubs participated in the season: 22 from Russia, and one each from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Slovakia, Croatia, and Finland. Each club played 60 matches. Following the regular season, 16 teams advanced to the playoffs. The 16 teams that finished in the top eight places in each conference competed for the Gagarin Cup in a playoff system. Pairings were structured as follows: 1–8, 2–7, 3–6, and 4–5. The winner was determined in a best-of-seven series.
The set consists of seven medals, and the series' concept features all participants in a hockey match, from referees to players of each position, as well as two key stages of the season. The medals were issued in a limited edition of 3,000 pieces in Proof quality, each packaged in a protective capsule in a gift blister card with a description and protected by a holographic KHL sticker with an individual serial number. They were minted at the Moscow Mint by order of Monetkin LLC as an official licensed product of the KHL (www.khl.ru).
With a mintage of 3,000 pieces of each medal, complete sets of all seven medals in original blisters are significantly fewer than individual pieces, as the medals were sold individually.
