Medal - Unirea Principatelor Române

Obverse

The obverse of the medal features a detailed portrait of Alexandru Ioan Cuza, shown in military attire with decorative insignia on his chest. Around the upper edge is the inscription “DOMNITORUL PRINCIPATELOR UNITE” (Ruler of the United Principalities). On either side of the portrait are the years 1859 and 1866, marking the beginning and end of his reign. Along the lower edge appears the name “A.I. CUZA.” The design honors Alexandru Ioan Cuza as the first ruler of the united Romanian principalities.

Reverse

The reverse displays the official coat of arms of the United Principalities of Romania, topped by a royal crown and surrounded by ornate heraldic elements. The shield prominently combines symbols representing Wallachia and Moldavia, emphasizing national unity. Encircling the upper edge is the inscription “UNIREA PRINCIPATELOR ROMANE” (The Union of the Romanian Principalities). At the bottom is the date 24.01.1859, commemorating the historic union of Moldavia and Wallachia under Alexandru Ioan Cuza.
