It is believed all examples are a restrike produced in Frankfurt in 1860. The restrikes were produced circa 1860 in Frankfurt by the local goldsmith Philipp Hofmann, commissioned by the coin collector and Director of the Homburg Casino, von Wellens. He had borrowed the dies—which were stored in the castle of Landgrave Ferdinand and had received permission to produce restrikes.
KM#8 and KM#9 are restrikes and die-couplings of KM#7 (this coin) with Hohenlohe-Schillingsfurst 2/3 Thaler, KM#28.
