This is the first Britannia to be created by an American artist, and the first to feature additional wording beyond the name ‘Britannia’ or the coin’s weight and fineness. The inscription directly echoes the closing words of Winston Churchill’s historic address to the United States Congress on 26 December 1941. In the final moments of that speech, Churchill expressed his hope that Britain and the United States would “walk together in majesty, in justice and in peace” in the years ahead.
