Comments

The 2025 Samoa 20-cent coin set, "Flying Apsaras," features five coins dedicated to the Mogao Caves frescoes in Dunhuang, China. The Dunhuang Grottoes are an ancient Buddhist cave complex renowned for their frescoes, Buddha statues, and manuscripts dating back over 1,000 years. Flying Apsaras—mythical celestial dancers symbolizing harmony and beauty—occupy a prominent place in the frescoes.
The obverse of each coin depicts a section of the Dunhuang temple complex, including the nine-story and three-story pagodas—UNESCO World Heritage sites. To see the entire panorama of the complex, collect all the coins in the series together.
