1163: CONSTRUCTION
In an expanding Paris, the Romanesque cathedral had become too small. Bishop Maurice de Sully decided to build a huge Gothic cathedral to replace it. The work lasted 200 years.

1804: THE CORONATION OF NAPOLEON
Named Emperor of the French by plebiscite, Napoleon crowned himself at his coronation at Notre-Dame on December 2, 1804. He also crowned his wife Joséphine, as seen in David's famous painting reproduced on this stained-glass striking.

1944: THE LIBERATION
When Paris was liberated, General de Gaulle went to Notre-Dame to attend the Te Deum dedicated to the victory. But the program was changed at the last minute, and in the end a vibrant Magnificat was sung in his presence.

2024: THE REOPENING
The fire at Notre-Dame in April 2019 caused considerable damage, notably destroying the entire frame and the spire designed by Viollet-le-Duc. After more than five years of work, the cathedral is scheduled to reopen on Sunday, December 8!

Nommé empereur des Français par plébiscite, Napoléon se couronne lui-même l'Ors de son sacre à Notre-Dame le 2 décembre 1804. Il couronne aussi son épouse Joséphine, comme on peut le voir sur le célèbre tableau de David reproduit sur cette frappe vitrail.

1944 : LA LIBÉRATION
À la Libération de Paris, le général de Gaulle se rend à Notre-Dame pour assister au Te Deum dédié à la victoire. Mais le programme est changé au dernier moment et c’est finalement un vibrant Magnificat qui sera chanté en sa présence.

2024 : LA RÉOUVERTURE
L’incendie de Notre-Dame, en avril 2019, a causé des dégâts considérables, détruisant notamment toute la charpente et la flèche de Viollet-le-Duc. Après plus de cinq années de travaux, la réouverture de la cathédrale est prévue le dimanche 8 décembre prochain !
