History(Chipguide): The casino is located on the beach of Pontaillac, which became a seaside resort in 1850 and was quickly snapped up by wealthy vacationers. Gradually, hotels and luxury villas began to shape Royan's most exclusive summer neighborhoods. In 1880, Pontaillac was home to a café, "La Restauration", replaced in 1902 by Royan's third casino, in a wooden building on stilts in the center of Conche. In 1930, the "Sporting Casino Pontaillac" replaced "La Restauration", which had become obsolete. The building, still standing today, features typical 1930s architecture. It has become a landmark in Royan. Lucien Barrière won the Pontaillac Casino concession in 1986, enabling the establishment to modernize.
