The sable image in the center is a key symbol of "soft junk" (furs), Russia's strategic resource.
The inscription in the center reads: 1 YASAK (tax) 1774 IN SOFT JUNK (furs) OR IN A CASTING SABLE (a copper ingot with a sable stamp).
The inscription around the edge of the medal reads: 250 YEARS OF THE CAPTIVITY OF THE PAST (prokhodimets - obsolete) FROM POLISH-LITHUANIAN COMMONWEALTH - the arrest of Yemelyan Pugachev and a reference to his Polish connections.

A set of four collectible medals, "1 Yasak 1774," was issued by the Moscow Mint (MMD) in 2019. It commemorates the Pugachev Rebellion (the Peasant War of 1773–1775 in Russia) and is styled after 18th-century coins.
