This medal is one of a series of 16, depicting Princess Beatrix and her ancestors, starting with Prince William I (1533-1584).
All medals in the series were created by Johannes Cornelis Wienecke (1872-1945), between 1934 and 1937.
The intention was to produce the complete set in 1938, but due to the crisis leading to World War II, the medals were not produced until almost 70 years later, after the original design.
The set was issued in a thick cardboard folder.
