Other types exist in the name of Harthacnut and are Scandinavian in origin. Although Harthacnut was the only legitimate heir to Cnut, he was unable to leave Denmark until 1040. Meanwhile, Harold had secured the kingdom of England in his absence, but Harthacnut was able to reclaim England without bloodshed on the death of Harold. His sole reign only lasted two years until his own death in 1042.
