Plain
Since the reign of John the Baptist, thick strikings of the Prague groschen were produced, modeled on the French piedforts, and used as gifts and propaganda items during visits to or from abroad. Such thick strikings were also made of late medieval coins to be used as standard pieces in large marketplaces. This was intended to compensate for weight variations of individual coins during larger transactions.
