Sarandí battle was fought on October 12th., 1825 between Oriental (Uruguayan) forces, leaded by Juan Antonio Lavalleja, and Brazilian forces, leaded by Bento Manuel Ribeiro that currently had invaded the country on 1820. Weapons in the design are referred to the famous order of Lavalleja “Sable en mano y carabina a la espalda!” (Sword in hand, and firegun on back), ordering soldiers to use the sword instead of the firegun.
