De Voogt 21, plate 2 no 5

Pannekeet BAT.16

The coats of arms on this coins were described by

  • HPM as: Bronkhorst, Batenburg, Manderscheid, Roucy or Blankenheim, again Roucy or Blankenheim, Stein, Bronkhorst and Batenburg, surtout of Stein.
  • vd Chijs as: Bronkhorst, Batenburg, Manderscheid, Blankenheim, probably Roucy or Roussy, Daun, Bronkhorst and Batenburg, surtout of Stein.
  • De Voogt as: Bronkhorst and Batenburg, Manderscheid and Blankenheim, Rouci ? - Daun, Bronkhorst and Batenburg, surtout of Stein.
  • Pannekeet as: Blankenheim or Roucy, Batenburg, Manderscheid, Bronkhorst, Bronkhorst, Stein, Blankenheim or Roucy, Batenburg, surtout of Stein

As can seen below and be deduced from the sources combined with the images, the coats of arms of Bronkhorst, Batenburg and Manderscheid are straightforward. The town of Roucy has no coat of arms with a large lion, but the town of Roussy does. The historical connection between Roussy and Batenburg was never there or is lost. The town of Daun has a coat of arms which matches the image on the coin and is mentioned in HPM (not with this coin), but the historical context is missing as well. The coats of arms assigned to Roucy/Roussy and Daun, maybe actually of other towns or families.
