These coins were minted in the name of the place - Ramanathapuram, hence having the tamil letters "Ra / Ma / Na".
A stone edict from Kothur, in the district of Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu situated around 30Kms from its head quarters mentions one Raamana son of Angappa Naikkar ruling the area around Hosur in 1511.CE. Arumuga Seetharaman illustrates five varieties of coins attributed to him in "Tamizhakakkasukal".
