This is a very interesting two-piece medal. It is a container with a screw on lid. BY screwing off the lid, a little folded booklet appears, attached on both ends to the bottom and lid, containing information about the topic of the medal. The topic of the medal is 1100 years of Dornbirn and the booklet illustrates and describes how the town came to be and that it was founded and previously known as Torrinpuirron.
This medal and other austrian medals like these are designed by the Gesellschaft Vorarlberger Münzfreunde and minted at Firma Schwertner & Cie, Graz-Eggenberg. The GVM is a consortium of numismatists dedicated to the history of their local surroundings. The medals they design and mint are not only extremely limited in mintage numbers but they are also not reissued ever. Once minted, that's it.
