The first coins for the islands of France and Bourbon (Mauritius and Reunion) were produced between 1721 and 1723 in Pondicherry in the French Indies. We have coins of 1 and 2 sols, produced at the instigation of the Compagnie des Indes. They circulated for a very short time, before being gradually replaced by 9-denier coins, originally intended for the American colonies.
There are 3 varieties:
-The present extremely rare variety with 10 globules in the upper crown on the obverse, not mentioned in the Lecompte
-Another variety with 7 globules in the upper obverse rim, reference LEC.3
-another variety with 9 globules in the upper obverse rim, reference LEC.4
