Comments

This 6 Krasnych medal was issued by the City of Krasnystaw and produced by Česká Mincovna (Czech Mint).

The medal commemorates the former Castle of Krasnystaw, a 14th-century fortress built by King Casimir the Great on the Wieprz River. The castle, which gave the city its name from the "Krasny Staw" (Beautiful Pond) created to supply its moats, once hosted notable figures including King Władysław Jagiełło and Archduke Maximilian III of Austria (imprisoned there in 1588). After centuries of warfare and neglect, the castle was demolished in 1824, with materials used to rebuild the city after an 1811 fire. The medal's obverse features the city's coat of arms showing two carps, while the reverse depicts the historical castle. Valid until December 31, 2011.
