THE COUNTERMARK

This Palm leaf countermark is inside of  an oval cartridge, with measures of 7 x 5 mm. This countermark is a latest  edition from the original designs, dated  between 1578 and 1625, to use in Gran Canaria Island.

The original documents speaking about this version disappeared during the pirate invasion to Las Palmas in 1599 add the fire of Las Palmas City Council in 1842. Despite this, recent studies suggest that this countermark was produced since 1578 to the first quarter of the XVII century.
