The Madara Horseman (Мадарски конник) — the early medieval rock-relief near Shumen, symbol of Bulgaria, designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. The image shows a mounted rider in right-facing profile, thrusting a spear downward toward a lion beneath the horse’s forelegs. The horse’s posture, the warrior’s garments, and the lion’s lowered form are presented with simplified yet historically accurate relief, faithfully translating the original stone carving into numismatic form. Inscription “БЪЛГАРИЯ” ('Bŭlgariya') on the upper side of the field and “СТОТИНКА” ('stotinka') at the bottom half of the field.
The year positioned on the right side of the field. Standard twelve EU stars encircle the outer ring.
