Comments

Comment from Nomos :

D. Knoepfler, who dated the issue to c. 100-90 BC, (Contributions à l'épigraphie de Chalcis II. Les couronnes de Théoklès, fils de Pausanias, BCH 103 1979, pp. 165-188) suggested that the individual named on the reverse of this coin was an athlete and that the wreath signifies his victory in one of the important panhellenic games. The date given in the RPC, c. 30s BC, is presumably to be connected with M. Antony's presence in Greece, but there seems to be no evidence for it; Knoepfler's dates are preferable.
