The commemorative medal was issued by the Moscow Mint (MMD, a branch of JSC Goznak) in 2022 in honor of the 220th Anniversary of the birth of the Russian Admiral Pavel Stepanovich Nakhimov (1802–1855), an outstanding Russian naval commander and hero of the Crimean War.
