The 5 baiocchi coins with crude coinage were minted during the Neapoletan period (governed by provisional city deputation), between november 1798 and march 1799. The coins were minted with metal obtained from the fusion of cannons.
The 5 baiocchi were minted in the same shape also during the Roman Republic government after march, and the mint closed permanently in september 1799 when British Army landed in Civitavecchia.
There are many varieties with typos in lettering and presence of stars in few positions.
