Comments

Mohammed Zahir Shah (1914 – 2007) was the last King of Afghanistan, reigning from 8 November 1933 until he was deposed on 17 July 1973. Upon the end of the Taliban rule, he returned to Kabul after nearly 30 years of exile.

Note on dates: The two dates given in Arabic are the Islamic years in both the Hijri (AH 1381) and Solar (SH 1340) calendars. Minting/release of this coin would have had to have been late in 1961 being that SH 1340 began on 23 September 1961 (the year AH 1381 had already begun earlier in the year).
