Comments

Minted for West Prussia, East Prussia and Danzig (different A - Berlin workshop) as well as for Silesia (different G - Glatz workshop). These coins were legal tender in Poland and South Prussia. Qualified as 3 Gröschel or Düttchen in East Prussia. In Silesia, these coins were considered 3 Kreuzer (Böhm) and not 3 Groschen. Because of the flying eagle on the reverse, these coins were given the popular name "Fledermaus" (bat).

A large number of period forgeries are known for this coin. The year 1804 A was not officially minted, so all these coins are said to be period fakes [sources: Olding (p. 76), Schön 18. Jahrh. (p. 810), Schön Weltmünzk. (p. 323), AKS (p. 299)]. According to the AKS, only the vintages 1806-1808 were struck. Vintages prior to 1806, however, are included in other catalogs.

Gold strikes are known for vintages 1807G and 1808G (very rare).
