The increase in the number of ribbons on the coat of arms was due to the division of the Transcaucasian SSR into the Armenian, Azerbaijani and Georgian Socialist Soviet Republics, as well as the separation of the Kazakh and Kyrgyz SSRs from the Russian SSR.
