For purchases of goods in shops of Arktikugol' (Arctic Coal)

The Svalbard archipelago (formerly Spitsberg for the larger island) is an archipelago located in the Arctic Glacial Ocean, north of the European continent, which is part of the Kingdom of Norway. It consists of a group of islands that range from 74º to 81º north and from 10º to 35º east; they form the northernmost part of Norway. Only three of the islands are inhabited: Spitsbergen, Bjørnøya and Hopen.

On May 7, 1935, the Soviet Union signed the Svalbard Treaty, which allowed the installation of a Soviet mining company in the Svalbard Islands (Russian: Шпицверген, tr.: Shpitsvergen) in northern Norway and inside the Circle. Arctic Polar. This company, called Arktikugol (Арктикуголь), issued a series of coins and banknotes for the exclusive use of the inhabitants of the island of Soviet nationality.
