Series: Proto Boar
Boar right, straight bristles on back, tail not curly, solid right legs (outer, nearest viewer), bifurcated left legs, no spear in shoulder. Double pellet in annulet in large ring of pellets above. Pellet in annulet above and in front of head.
Horse left, long ears, short fern tail. Large pelletal sun (anemone, solar rosette) above with annulet (sometimes containing pellet) in ring of pellets. Single or double pellet in ring in front. Below either annulet containing concave triangle or Mercedes symbol.
Rich Type 14, ‘Mercedes Proto Boar’, intermediate period:
Rich Type 14a: 2 on CCI (1 obverse, 1 reverse die). Pelletal sun above horse contains pellet; single pellet in annulet in front; annulet containing concave triangle below.
Rich Type 14a var ('Two Mercedes Proto Boar'): As Type 14a but boar has an annulet containing a concave triangle behind it (Chris Rudd List 160, 13 August 2018, lot 22, found near Doncaster, Yorkshire).
Rich Type 14b: 1 on CCI (1 obverse, 1 reverse die). Pelletal sun above horse contains no pellets; double pellet in annulet in front; annulet containing concave triangle below.
Rich Type 14c: 2 on CCI (1 obverse, 1 reverse die). Pelletal sun above horse contains pellet; single pellet in annulet in front; Mercedes symbol below; horse has single left foreleg.
The intermediate period horse always has a fern tail.
