Series: Proto Boar

Obverse

Boar right with deep chest and broad snout, straight bristles on back, tail not curly, solid right legs (outer, nearest viewer), bifurcated left legs, no spear in shoulder. Double pellet in annulet in large ring of pellets above. Pellet in ring above and below in front. Spiral behind.

Reverse

Horse left, pronounced pin-head mane, short fern tail, exaggerated forelegs. Large pelletal sun (anemone, solar rosette, one or two ringed pellets inside ring of pellets) above. Annulet below with either one or three pellets. Annulet in front, sometimes with pellet. Sometimes spiral behind.

Comments

Rich Type 11, ‘Pin-Mane Proto Boar’, intermediate period:
Rich Type 11a: 4 on CCI (2 obverse, 3 reverse dies). Large pelletal sun above horse contains one ringed pellet; annulet below has three pellets; spiral behind.
Rich Type 11b (BMC 3204): 2 on CCI (2 obverse, 1 reverse dies). One obverse die from Type 11a. Large pelletal sun above horse contains two ringed pellets; annulet below has one pellet; no spiral behind.

The intermediate period horse always has a fern tail.
