The Battle of Turnhout took place on January 24, 1597 during the Eighty Years' War (1568 - 1648) between the Dutch Republic and Spain. It was a key victory for the Dutch and English forces, led by Prince Maurice of Nassau, against the Spanish troops commanded by Count Jean de Rie of Varax.
