A geographical map of Western Europe spans the outer ring and inner core on the right side of the coin. The inscription 2 EURO is superimposed over the map of Europe, with the numeral “2” located in an open field representing the eastern Atlantic Ocean. 12 stars are located on the right side of the outer ring, with six stars atop the map of Europe and six stars below it; six vertical stripes cut across the inner core of the coin, visually connecting the upper and lower star segments.

The Maltese Ox is a species of cow native to the Maltese islands. The etchings of bulls on some of the masonry in local prehistoric temples provide proof that the Maltese native cow is a species that dates back to the prehistoric age. The domesticated Maltese cow served as a source of muscle power rather than food. They are extremely thin and fat-free, therefore not good for the meat industry but provided the necessary power to carry large objects and plow fields when tractors and modern machinery waren’t available. They played a key role in the construction of the nearby churches and temples. These animals are really peaceful, quiet and really resistant to the sun, which comes in abundance in Malta.
