Comments

The nominal value of the silver coins struck after the second reign of emperor Justinian II is uncertain and widely disputed. Some attribute them as hexagrammata, some as miliaresia. As neither side has provided sufficient evidence in support of their views, the page takes a neutral stance.

The coins, much like earlier silver coins, use solidus dies for the reverse, while the obverse appears to be a new creation for the emission.

As is common for the period, more officinae likely produced the coins than is currently known, and it would not be surprising for examples discovered in the future to stem from new offcinae for the emission.
