The setback recalls the Camisard revolt and defeat. In 1703, Montrevel had been unable to subdue the Camisards. In 1704, Marshal de Villars obtained Jean Cavalier's submission (May 1704). The province was finally pacified in 1705, and on the reverse side, Occitanie held an olive branch.
