Comments

Van Arsdell Classification: Atrebatic D, First Coinage of Tincomarus.

Sills has the Warrior Com F Tinco stater (ABC 1064), the Com F Tinc quarter (ABC 1085) and the Cernunnos unit as equivalents due to the crude obverse inscriptions and similar leaping animals. They follow on from the Native Warrior stater (ABC 1061) and its equivalents.

The facing bust is copied from denarii of L. Plautius Plancus from 47BC (Crawford 453/1c).

Sills chronology: Gallo-Belgic Ca - Insular Cf / Aa Westerham - British Ad - British Q and L - British Qa-b Derivatives - Commios - Tincomarus.
