AUREUS MAGNUS
Plain
4th Aureus Magnus series designed by Werner Graul in 1955 to commemorate 300th birthday of Louis William, Margrave of Baden-Baden (German: Ludwig Wilhelm von Baden-Baden). Known as Türkenlouis ("Turkish Louis") for his numerous victories against Ottoman forces. Variants exit in 10, 20 and 30 ducats denominations.
This page is for variant that has earlier reverse design with “SIGNATUS AD PRETIUM AURI CONSERVANDUM” lettering. Second type uses “AVORUM NON MORITURA VIRTUS” reverse.
Graul designed a series of gold medals (ducats) which he called Aureus Magnus between 1955 and 1982.
