Token celebrating the Battle of Paris
The Battle of Paris took place on March 30, 1814. The final battle of the French campaign, it pitted the imperial French army (40,000 men) against the European allied forces (100,000 men). The French defeat marked the end of the reign of Napoleon I, who abdicated after the surrender. The most important battle took place at the Barrière de Clichy, defended by Marshal Moncey, who commanded the Garde Nationale. In the evening, negotiations are opened and during the night, Marshal Marmont, with the mediation of Prince Talleyrand, signs an armistice: French troops evacuate Paris towards the south, and at 11 a.m. on March 31, 1814, the allies enter Paris.
