Markneukirchen, in eastern Germany (Markneukirchen - Wikipedia), is the principal town in a region known since the 17th century for producing high quality musical instruments. In 1967 one of its main producers began operating in new factory facilities, which this medal commemorates.
VEB is the German acronym for Volkseigener Betrieb meaning “people-owned enterprise”, which in the former DDR meant state-owned.
