Princess Bari holding a fan
Script: Latin
Lettering: PRINCESS BARI
The story of Princess Bari is a traditional Korean myth that has been translated roughly one hundred times by scholars. While in some versions she fails to become a deity, she’s widely accepted as the patron goddess of shamans and the conductor of the souls of the dead. The story goes that her parents, the king, and the queen, fall deathly ill and can only be saved if Bari returns with medicinal water from Western Heaven. She does so, thus saving the lives of her parents. Her story is often told during funeral rites.
