The first attempt to secede from Seleucid rule.
Head of Oborzos right, with moustache and earring, wearing diadem and kyrbasia.
King standing right wearing kidaris and kandys (special clothes for Achaemenid kings), preparing to slay captive Greek warrior (katoikoi) with a bow in his left hand.
Script: Aramaic
Translation: Wahbarz was/may be victorious, (he) who (is) the commander [the karanos (κἀρανος)]
Van't Haaf (p. 26) describes the debate in the numismatic community on this series, with Alram questioning its authenticity in a 1987 paper, but Museler (and presumably van;t Haaff) putting forth reasons to accept it.
Dates of Oborzos' reign are estimates based on van't Haaff's dating of the Frataraka dynasty to 280-220 B.C. and his sequence as third ruler.
