Nayakas of Madurai ruled Madurai and the surrounding regions as autonomous rulers from 1565 till 1736. This coin belong to the period 1600-1736 and it's part of "Sri Vi Ra" coins.
In some books, it was mentioned that the standing figure on the obverse is Lord Venkateswara, but actually it's Goddess Meenakshi, who is the primary goddess in Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple.
