Reverse

Against a reverse proof finish, Canadian artist Lisa Thomson Khan has created a special maple leaf portrait, a unique display of Canada's cultural emblem. Two maple leaf species crossed at the stem are highlighted by a selective application of rose gold plating. Fine details and delicate veining are beautifully engraved within the relief, only to be highlighted by rose gold plating.

Comments

Our beloved maple leaf takes center stage within this beautiful design, enhanced by a selectively rose gold plated frame. A unique approach, which features a maple leaf-duo, a red maple leaf (Acerrubrum) on the left side next to Canada's iconic sugar maple (Acer saccharum). The 2020 edition of our Maple Leaf Forever displays a special combination of engraving, finishes and plating.

DID YOU KNOW?

The red maple (Acer rubrum) is a common maple species in eastern North America that can be found from Newfoundland in the east to the south-east corner of Manitoba in the west, and from Gaspésie in Quebec southward almost to the southern tip of Florida.

The sugar maple (Acer saccharum) is renowned for its autumn colours and sugary sap. While other trees can be tapped for syrup, the sugar maple, because of the high sugar content, is the top choice for producing Canada's sweetest export: maple syrup.

Platinum was a major challenge for Europe's 18th-century scientists. They found it difficult to work with its high melting point and resistant properties. These "obstacles" make platinum the perfect metal for many of today's high-tech applications such as fuel cells, electronic components, medical devices/implants, and crucibles.
