Comments

During the Spanish Civil War, the hoarding of fractional currency tremendously affected economic activity, already altered, and forced, as in other republican areas, to resort to the so-called "vouchers" and "bonds", which they were especially used by merchants, for the return of the change of banknotes. This form of money was issued by municipalities, merchants, industries, public transport, different entities, etc.
This situation could be extrapolated to the fronts themselves and the republican army, and thus we found the existence of banknotes of the 126 mixed brigade, 502 battalion, 28 division (for values of 25 and 50 Centimos and 1 Peseta) of legal tender inside, with their numbering and authorized signatures (the chief, the war commissioner, the authorized lieutenant). For the same face value of 1 Peseta, there are copies in different colors and backs with different shapes. It was not the only one, at least there are banknotes also for the 501st battalion, 28th division, 126th mixed brigade, with different designs than the 502nd battalion, and dated 1937.
