The Danube Delta is a mix of plains, lakes, canals, swamps, islands and ridges bordered by the Black Sea coast to the East, the Chilia Arm to the North, the Razim-Sinoie lake complex to the South and the first fork of the Danube to the West. The formation of he delta is a continuous process that lasted thousands of years and consist in the slow deposition of sediments brought by the Danube before it flows into the sea. It is the second largest river delta in Europe, the only delta in the world entirely declared a biosphere sanctuary and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1991. The Danube Delta is therefore an exotic land, where one can discover over 1830 species of trees and plants, over 2440 species of insects, 91 species of mollusks, 11 species of reptiles, 10 species of amphibians, 341 species of birds, 44 mammal species and 133 species of fish.
