Comments

The motto of the city of Worcester, sometimes written 'Civitas In Bello Et Pace Fidelis', is thought to refer to the City's support of the royal house of Stuart. In 1621 Worcester was granted a charter by James I declaring the City to be a county in itself, separate from the County of Worcestershire - 'The County of the City of Worcester'. This distinction came to an end with the reform of the local government in 1974.
