Jeti Qazyna - the seven treasures of the steppe
From time immemorial, in many countries, the number seven has been considered a happy, complete number, full of energy and higher spirituality. Many things link it to religions and beliefs, arts and sciences, language and culture.
The concept of "Jeti Qazyna" occupies a special place in the ideology of the Kazakh people. By treasure, we mean the seven components necessary in a man's life: er jigit, sulu jáne aqyl áiel, júirik at, qyran búrkit, júirik tazy, beren myltyq, bilim (the courage of a young jigit, a beautiful and intelligent woman, a fast horse, a golden eagle for hunting, a loyal greyhound tazi, a good weapon, knowledge). If these seven treasures are present, then life will be full and happy.
The first component of "Jeti Qazyna" is er jigit. Among Kazakhs, nomads have always had a man at the head of the family, who had to provide for and support the family, and was the clan's protector. They say of women, of wives: "Aqyldy áiel - bereke bar" (an intelligent woman is wealth). The wife's task is not only to guard the family home, but also to distribute her husband's booty correctly and wisely. Moreover, it is the wife's responsibility to raise children worthy of their father. The head of the family doesn't bring up his children because he's constantly at work, on the move, hunting. The mother asks her children to respect their father and learn by observing his actions.
The other three treasures of a man, according to the nomads, are the three faithful friends of a young jigit (rider): a fast horse, a tazi greyhound and a golden eagle.
Moreover, the Kazakhs believed that a house inhabited by a golden eagle provided protection from evil. Consequently, the wings, feathers and legs of this bird were hung in a place of honor in the house or above the head of the cradle. The sacred bird was believed to protect against the evil eye and serve as a talisman.
The dog was also a faithful hunting friend. The birth of a tazi puppy was believed to bring abundance, wealth and happiness. The dog's capture of its first prey was a real feast. The tazis, accompanied by hunting birds and horses, were always taken to major feasts and festivals, and were the pride of their master.
In Kazakh oral culture, the horse is a hero's indispensable companion: "He who has never ridden a horse is not a true jigit", it is said.
The list of "Jetі Qazyna" ends with good weapons (sword, bow and arrow, the "qamshy-pyshaq" which is a sharp blade hidden in the handle of the whip, etc.), which are indispensable in battle, and the knowledge and know-how that will help to take the right path in life and make enlightened decisions.Automatically translated
